Counting down 1000 UN success stories to mark 1000 days left to achieve the MDGs 598: Addressing Maternal Health in HMong Communities in Viet Nam: Efforts to ensure that all births are attended by skilled health personnel have contributed to a drastic reduction of maternal and infant mortality. In Hang Kia, for example, no maternal deaths have been reported since 2003, when Mua started to work at the health centre. Although pregnancy outcomes vary widely among different regions, the Government has confirmed that maternal mortality is declining nationwide, and that the country is on track to reduce it to 60 per 100,000 live births by 2010, with the aim of meeting the Millennium Development Goal 5 target by 2015.
