Country or territory: Belgium Affected area(s): Brussels Incident: Planned strikes and protests Incident description: Several taxi associations have call for strikes in Brussels on 19 June. In addition, a protest march will be held in central Brussels. Taxi drivers are scheduled to gather at 10:00 local time at the Gare du Nord railway station, proceed to the Sainctelette metro station and conclude their march with a rally at the transport ministry. Analysis: The event is being held in protest against the alleged failure of the transport ministry to implement several measures agreed with taxi unions in January 2013. The strike is expected to lead to a shortage of taxis and an increased demand for alternative modes of transport in Brussels on 19 June. In addition, traffic congestion in central Brussels should be anticipated, including along the Boulevard Leopold II, Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, the Boulevard du Regent and the Rue de la Loi. Advice: Clients should prepare for transport disruptions in central Brussels on 19 June.
