County Challenge Cup Rd 2 - 2014 Toomevara 0-16 Silvermines 0-13 in Dolla 16th March 2014 Played in dry conditions Toomevara were quick in to their stride against a strong wind and opened up a 2 point lead after 10 minutes courtesy of a John O Brien point and a Willie Ryan free. Silvermines first score could easily have been a goal but was deflected over by Darren Cuddihy. Toome restored their 2 point lead coutesy of a Paddy Grace point after good work by Cathal Kennedy and a good run by Grace. Orie Quirke and Joey McLouhgney swapped points from frees before Qrie Quirke scored a great long range point and the same man scored a point from the sideline. Colm Canning split Quirkes point with a point from Toome. It was nip or tuck from here to half time with Silvermines going into the lead courtesy of 4 points while Toome responded through Joey McLoughney and Ogie O Meara, leaving the score at half time Silvermines 0-08 Toomevara 0-07. With the wind Toomevara quickly opened up a lead, with some great shooting form Joey McLoughney who scored 4 points and a Willie Ryan free which put them 12 points to 8 up before Orie Quirke got a point for Silvermines from a 21 yard free. Two further scored frees for Toomevara were split with a similar score for Silvermines and from there to the end Silvermines pushed Toomevara strong and probably had the upper hand but could not breach the Toome backline for the all wanted goal. Toomevaras final 2 scores came from Mark McCarthy and Willie Ryan while Silvermines scored 2 fees and a point from play. In the final few minutes Silvermines dropped in 3 consecutive frees to try and get a goal but Andrew Ryan stood firm in the Toomevara backiline. Best for Toomevara were Andrew Ryan, Cathal Kennedy and Joseph McLoughney.
