County commissioners will meet Tuesday to further discuss the need - TopicsExpress

County commissioners will meet Tuesday to further discuss the need to raise property taxes by nearly a third. In what will be the second special budget meeting for the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), the board members are expected to consider cuts in services that would amount to $1.4 million, as that is what they instructed their consultant at their first budget meeting on June 18 The $1.4 million savings was needed to keep the countywide millage rate down to 8.1739 mills, rather than to raise it to 8.3050 mills from the current rate of 5.9783 mills. One mill is equivalent to $1 of tax for each $1,000 of assessed, nonexempt real property. Staff & consultant recommendation proposed to be: 5.9783. TO 8.1739 ~~~ Approx ~~~~ THIRTY %
