Court decisions, including one from the Nevada Supreme Court, have made it crystal clear that Public Employees Retirement Systems records are public information. Yet, PERS officials have continued to stonewall the RGJs request for the records. The Sunday RGJ editorial takes the stance that its time for PERS to follow the courts orders and release the information. As previously stated, the RGJ is examining the system for signs of corruption, inefficiencies and unethical or illegal behavior. We want to independently review the entire system to ensure it is not being abused. We have no intention of printing the names of all 47,000 people in the system. What do you think: Are you curious to know what kind of financial shape PERS is in by way of a thorough report from the RGJ, or do you trust that all is well and think the RGJ should leave well enough alone?
