Courtesy Rowan Dix: Saturday December 10th, 2016 Will Hodgman has finally abandoned his election plan to rip $75 million out of Forestry Tasmania. Senior Liberal figures have admitted the embattled Premier simply can’t politically afford more job losses, or thepolitical symbolism of further damaging forestry. The broken promise leaves the Government facing an extra $75 million hole in its budget, which is tipped to lead to more broken funding promises, budget cuts, tax rises or asset sales elsewhere. Despite the FT back-flip, experts say the industry is virtually dead anyway after the Liberal Government tore-up the Tasmanian Forest Agreement against the wishes of all parties two years ago (therefore killing any chance of FSC certification), and extended logging into World Heritage Areas (despite little market demand) in another perverse attempt to appear pro-forestry. In response to the Liberal Government’s actions, ENGOs have ramped-up protest action harder than ever - crippling whats left of struggling non-FSC markets and the industry. https://facebook/rowan.dix.52/posts/10153886893720705?stream_ref=1
