Coy Mathis, 6 years old, was born a male but has identified as female since the age of 18 months. When she started school her teachers used feminine pronouns and she always used the female restroom. Until school let out for Christmas break and they informed her parents that when school resumed she would not be allowed to use the girls’ restroom any longer. The New York-based Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund announced the ruling in favor of Coy Mathis on Sunday.
