Cracked had this article about how to keep terrorists from ruining the world, but forget to write the part of how to stop terrorists. So I wrote this comment to help them with that. Enjoy! For people who insist the solution to terrorism is to kill them all, the big blunder they make is in the belief that there is a type of person that is a terrorist. As if theres a finite group of people who hate us and theres literally no way to stop them besides killing them all. And if they were right in that analysis, theyd be right in their solution. But terrorists isnt a category of people. Instead, it can be anyone. And what makes someone become a terrorist is that they feel powerless, as if they have no control over their own lives. And then they meet someone who exploits those feelings by telling them about the enemy thats doing this to them. And how this enemy isnt just oppressing them, but their entire group of people. And how their people were once powerful, and can be powerful again, if only they could fight back. But their oppressor is simply too powerful to attack directly, and the only solution is to attack indirectly. To hit soft targets. To hit their citizens, which is acceptable, since thats what the oppressors have been doing to them for years. And only by fighting violence with violence can they finally overthrow the bullies who have been oppressing their people and they can at last regain the glory they once had. And if that requires martyrdom, then so be it. Because the person has nothing to live for anyway, besides paying the ultimate sacrifice to help his people become free. And thats how it works around the world, including domestic terrorists in our own country. You find someone that feels trapped and powerless, convince them of the foe whos responsible for it, and watch as they kill whoever they need to kill to gain control over their lives. And even if they sacrifice their own life, at least its their decision and not the decision of their enemy. Because no matter how powerless you are, you can always resort to terrorism; and that becomes the outlet they use to take charge of their lives. But these people arent psycho killers. Theyre patsies. Suckers, being brainwashed into doing something theyd never do on their own, if they werent tricked into it by someone older and wiser than them. And somehow it never occurs to them that their old wise recruiter isnt sacrificing themselves or taking much of a risk at all. Its the recruiter thats doing the evil, creating human bombs with each powerless sucker they find. And once you realize that, you see how violence against their people is whats causing it. And even in countries where the real villain oppressing them is their own people, if they can be lead to believe its someone else, thats who theyll attack. And if its a foreign invader thats killing their people, then thats the obvious target they go after. And thats why terrorists want to hit us, not so well bow down, but so well overreact and help create more terrorists by proving that we really are the dreaded overlords control their lives. And eventually, all their people will rise up and join them in their struggle against us. Thats their goal, and us dropping bombs and smearing their people is part of the plan. And even in our own country, domestic terrorists are fed lies about how the government is oppressing them and how they need to strike now before its too late and they take their guns and strip them of their last bit of power. And the goal is to start a revolution, so they can take back their country from the liberals who have usurped our proper leadership. Thats Tim McVeigh, Eric Frein, Jarad Miller, the Sovereign Citizens, and...potentially about a quarter of the angry ranters on the Internet. (Just being honest, people.) Theyve all been led to believe that our government is no longer legitimate and is slowly stripping them of their freedoms like a frog boiling in water, and an impending revolution or race war is the only thing that can stop this from happening. And the solution: Empowering people, by giving them a sense of control over their own lives. Thats it. Its not about stopping them after theyve been brainwashed into killing us, but not letting them be susceptible to brainwashing in the first place. Because when people feel as if they can control their own destinies, they dont feel the need to destroy anyone elses. Theyre not evil. They just feel trapped by life and dont know how to get out. We, as a society, need to help people out of the trap, by giving them a constructive purpose and not a destructive one. Its the only thing that works.
