Craigs Shocktober Horror Marathon 2014 - Day 21: Puppet Master - TopicsExpress

Craigs Shocktober Horror Marathon 2014 - Day 21: Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys (2004) Robert Toulon (Corey Feldman), the descendent of the original puppet master Andre Toulon, replicates his ancestors formula and brings to life his infamous puppets Pinhead, Blade, Jester, and Six-Shooter. Unbeknownst to Toulon, Ms. Sharpe (Vanessa Angel), the president of a multimillion dollar toy company, is spying on him and wants the secrets of Toulons puppets for herself. At her command are the Demonic Toys, the possession of which she has through a compact with a demon name Bael to distribute the toys so that on Christmas Day they will be ideally placed where they can attack the innocent. So I guess this technically makes this a Christmas movie. Oooooooooooooh, this was baaaad... this is probably the worst movie Ive watched so far in my marathon. Which is CRAZY since usually a movie starring Corey Feldman and Vanessa Angel would normally be a slam dunk! The blame for this doesnt go to Full Moon for once either - this movie was produced by The SyFy Channel, back when it was spelled correctly and it exclusively produced retarded bullshit. This movie was the first of many that lead down the dark path that is Sharknado. Before anyone goes, But Craig, you *like* crappy movies! Yes, I do when they are bad by *accident*, not because a studio cynically thinks viewers will idiotically consume anything (which is the company credo of Asylum Films, the company behind such classics as Sharknado or Transmorphers). This movie might have started out as a genuine passion project - lets take two iconic groups of characters from Full Moons films and make them fight! However, its clear by the finished product that budget, time, a lousy script, and tremendously poor casting killed this project before it could come to life. Speaking of casting... Corey Feldman... *face palm*... is absolutely miscast as Toulon, playing the character as a gravely voiced, eccentric scientist with wild hair and a hot daughter that looks like shes at least five years his junior. Meanwhile, Vanessa Angel is serviceable as an evil villainous, though I may be biased since she played such an instrumental part in my... er, self-discovery stage of adolescence... when I would stay up late to watching her in the Weird Science TV series. Although shes no Mia Farrow, Im sure she would be been adequate if she was working with a decent script. Oh, I cant review this movie without mentioning the actual battle between the Toulon Puppets and the Demonic Toys lasts all of 7 minutes, and due to special effects constraints, looks shitty as all get out. God, Ive said too much about this movie (and about my adolescent activities). Score: 0 out of 4 - thats right, ZERO out of four Christmas Pals
