Crash Dye Cannon (CDC) Here is an idea to find crashed - TopicsExpress

Crash Dye Cannon (CDC) Here is an idea to find crashed airplanes that I submitted freely last year to the aviation industry and the NTSB. I was contacted twice thanking me for the concept. I was told the idea has moved up through ranks to the design and development stages. I asked for no compensation. If even one life is saved or one family has closure, then that is all I ask. Here is my letter to NTSB -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NTSB, If you are not the proper contact for this please forgive me. If you can forward it to those who might be interested I thank you. Here is an idea I freely submit to you that might help save lives. Crash Dye Cannon (CDC) Every year small planes go down in Alaska. The thick canopy and rugged terrain swallow some never to be found or found to late to help survivors. I envision a Crash Dye Cannon mounted to the undercarriage of a plane with the muzzle pointed backward. An impact sensor is mounted in the nose of the plane. A small computer detects imminent crashes by calculating the altitude and rate of decent and attitude of the plane. A panic button for the pilot is available. All three trigger systems would allow an orange florescent metallic spray to deploy from the muzzle of the Dye Cannon either as the plane descends to crash or at the moment of the crash. This would spray the surroundings with an orange dye visible during the day, a florescent covering visible at night and a metallic marker that could give a radar return. This system would weigh very little and could be mounted aftermarket or factory installed. Please consider this to help save lives and give closure. Use it freely if you decided to implement it. It is my own idea and is free of restrictions of use. Michael Glidden
