Crazy, strange day.... On my way back to Davis, I saw a women on the side next to the freeways ramp. She was not holding a sign, just sitting there with big plastic bags that were all over the place, and a cat. I could see her laying hunched over. I drove past, and then flipped right around, hit my hazards on the car and went to her. She was very sick, and crying, afraid. She told me she was waiting for her husband to come back and pick her up, he had to leave her there. She had been there for 5 hours...and through all the bags out the car. She was left. I have NEVER felt so helpless. Her kitty was so sweet, and loved her. She was so afraid someone would take it away. I took her hand told her it would be ok, and I would be back. I ran to the store, got cat food, and some food bars for her. I called a taxi, and had them take her to the shelter. It was all I could think to do. She was so frightened and was sure her husband would come back... This was after I saw the bit mark he left on her arm. It was so bad, bleeding. The good news is that when she got to Davis, she was taking right to the hospital and someone was taking care of the cat. I will never forget Susans face, her hands, her cat. I never want to. I wish I knew how to help someone like this...heartbreaking... All we really have is trying to help people...
