Creative Music Institute [FREE MUSIC TRIO] at Vargtimmen. John Lahovski – Guitar Max Pyle – Bass Tom Bagshaw - Drums This music is called “Free Music” because it is not subject to the tyrannical requirements of conventional music. There will be recognizable elements of music. We will not however be compelled to play popular songs, “good beats” or even real notes. This music will appear to the uninitiated to be un-contextual meaningless rambling. It will NOT be entertaining. In our work this evening, we will explore the universe of music and sound, known and the unknown…. to the best of our abilities. Although the work will appear to be meaningless, we will try to “force it to mean something”. One of our corollary intentions is to return from our explorations of “The Free” will something of value for the community. For this reason, we must be “free from the need to be free”. If we hear a beautiful melody, a jamming groove, or some normal chord changes that support our intent, we will not hesitate to integrate these sounds into our concept of the moment. The Musical Ideas: There will be no pre-conceived musical ideas. Each piece will be a new exploration of sound. We will not discuss or “plan” the music prior to the performance. This is improvised, collaborative music composition. The setting will be Guitar Trio – Guitar, Bass, and Drums. The bass and drums are just as important as the guitar though. Things we can expect: This music will include: Synthetic Manipulation of Time achieved by the use of uncommon time signatures, multiple simultaneous time signatures and or tempos, poly-rhythms, elastic meter. Anti-Diatonic Harmony featuring: Multiple Tonal Centers: Synthetic Harmonies: Multi-Functional, Dysfunctional, and Multi-Dysfunctional Harmonies Melodic Elements will be culled from discreet sources: Post-Bop, Great American Songbook, Old School R & B, Fusion, TV Cartoon Themes and British songs from 1979 Brought to you by Creative Music Institute… No admission charge.
