Credits goes to Respected Brother Osama Qureshi As many of you have probably heard by now, a nonsensical audio log urging attack on people in Canada was released by a spokesperson of ISIS. On this matter, the following few points should be kept in mind for anyone in Canada: - Islam absolutely prohibits the killing of any civilians, and protects the rights of all human beings in their capacity as human beings. Whoever kills a soul not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. [TMQ 5, 32] The people of Canada are innocent and to attack any of them is completely prohibited. - We must be aware, however, that the reaction of the media in relation to the statement is, as usual, extremely skewed. The statement by ISIS is an empty statement by a very small group that is being blown out of proportion. In comparison, the crimes of nations like Israel and the Syrian regime are massive. Not only are these regimes not condemned, instead they are supported by the likes of Harper and Justin Trudeau in the atrocities they commit. The silence upon Syria, where over 200,000 have been killed by the butcher Bashar Al Assad, or the death of 500 little children in Gaza is a monstrous thing. - This event can be leveraged to further spread Islamophobia. Already Muslims have been put under pressure around the world, from the atrocious raids in Australia, to mass-surveillance in the UK, to even attacks on an Imam in Canada. This all points to an ever-increasing environment of hostility against Muslims which should be made clear to all the citizens of Canada. Ignorant hatred of this sort should be opposed by all sincere human beings. - In Islam we are obligated to help care about the affairs of our neighbors, to help build a strong family and community, and to speak truth and support justice regardless of race/gender/nationality/ideology. The Islamic way is to be a positive influence on society towards truth, and we are not a people who remain silent upon wrongs even if the wrongs are done in the name of Islam itself. The prophet peace be upon him said: Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, O Allahs Apostle! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor? The Prophet said, By preventing him from oppressing others. - As Muslims we invite anyone who disagrees with us or has a grievance with us to come and talk to us. We are always open to a sincere, intellectual, and robust discussion on any topic whatsoever, no matter how controversial it is. We know the people in Canada are generally good people who would gladly sit and have conversation, so if you have questions or concerns we are here and available.
