Cricketers Reunion holds third annual event Published: Trinidad Guardian The T&T Cricketers Reunion Committee will host its third annual Cricketers Reunion at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday. Eight persons who have made significant contributions to the cricketing community will be honoured with plaques and if possible, cash donations. They include Clyde Cumberbatch, Dudnath Ramkeesson, Lawrence Woods, Clarence Shafferali, Harry Lalla, Mohammed Hussain, Sidiq Mohammed and Lowe Sinnerine. The committee includes Justice Prakash Moosai (chairman), Ganesh Mahabir, Gary Almandoz, Gregory Gomez, Giles Antoine, Ganga Bhagwandeen, Lester Cassimy, Anthony Dharson, Colin Murray, Waaz Hosein and Umesh Persad. The current format of the reunion is that each club that is playing or would have played at National League level or its equivalent in the past is invited to “bring drinks and cook a pot”. The idea behind hosting an annual event is that players, administrators and umpires (both past and present) can “meet and greet” in a convivial atmosphere, share memories or tell a story or a joke. The committee is not limited to hosting an annual event. Along the committee’s journey it has sought to assist some past cricketers, who all have varying degrees of challenges such as financial constraints. The committee is of the view that this may very well turn out to be the single most important objective for this young, fledgling committee. The committee’s cause is noble and just, and it believes with some assistance from the business and sporting communities, that it can provide some measure of comfort for some of T&T’s cricketers who have, after all, made a meaningful contribution to cricket in particular and society in general.
