Crime Scene Investigation. Genesis 27:31-33 ” Then they got Joseph’s robe, slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood. They took the ornate robe back to their father and said, “We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son’s robe.” He recognized it and said, “It is my son’s robe! Some ferocious animal has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces.” Josephs story is one of those stories in the bible where most of us turn to when we want some encouragement and inspiration. Because of his dreams and the fact that his father loves him more than his brothers, Josephs brothers plot to kill him. Their older brother prevails over them and they end up selling him off as a slave. They take the thing that his father gave him as a sigh of love to him, the coat of many colours and they use it as evidence to fake the death of Joseph. Thy smear it with goats blood and they take it to their father to identify weather it belongs to his son. His father identifies it and concludes that Joseph is dead. The evidence is so real but the real story is so different because Joseph is on his way to Egypt as a slave Genesis 39:13-15 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, 14 she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. 15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.” Josephs clothes get him in trouble again this time with his masters wife. Daily she pursues him to sleep with her but Joseph because of his commitment to God turns her down. She gets an opportunity when they are all alone and she really presses him to sleep with her. Joseph being a wise young man who knows where his limits are takes off but in the process her master’s wife remains with his cloak which she uses as evidence against him for attempted rape. Joseph ends up in prison. The evidence is real but the real story is quite different. The thing I find most amazing in this whole story is that Joseph maintains a clean heart and a good attitude and he does not hold grudges. When he becomes second in command over Egypt he does not go out to look for Portiphars wife for payback and also when his brothers come to look for grain in Egypt he does not pay them back for what they did to him. All this while God was setting Joseph up to be at the right place at the right time. How real is the evidence against you? Is it as real as a bloody coat of colours and a missing body? Have things been said about you yet the real story is very different? I have got news for you, as long as you remain faithful like Joseph did, God is setting you up and He only will bring you to the place He has set up for you. On the other hand, the devil has said some pretty nasty things about you and the evidence in your life looks real to confirm his story. As long as you remain in God, just know that it is all a set up for what God has prepared for you. Practical Application Remain faithful even though there is plenty of evidence against you. It’s all a set up!
