Cristiano Ronaldo is aiming to star in the El Clasico and extend the gap between Real Madrid and Barcelona to seven points at the top of La Liga. The Portugal superstar has already been acclaimed as the World Footballer of the Year. Now he wants to emphasise the point by inspiring Real’s pursuit of the Spanish title and Champions League before turning his attentions to World Cup glory in Brazil this summer. In the countdown to El Clasico, the captain of Portugal was busy with his advisers arranging a series of flights for his family and friends to share his dream trip to Brazil. He has chartered four private jets, and a spokesman for the Brazilian airforce (FAB) has confirmed that that they have granted Ronaldo’s request to have the private jets land at the ­Campinas military airport on June 7, just before the start of the 2014 finals. On board will be Ronaldo’s mother, his sisters, his brothers-in-law, his son, his girlfriend and other friends. “He has also booked them into five star hotels for the duration of their stay.” A spokesman for the FAB said: “The squad of Portugal is allowed to land on Campinas, and so are the four private jets with ­Ronaldo’s family.” FAB are happy to welcome Ronaldo’s ‘team’ to the ­military airport at Campinas – the town where the Portugal squad is based – but they will declare no-fly zones over the World Cup stadiums in a bid to prevent terrorist attacks.
