Cruz: Prevent people from having their healthcare plans - TopicsExpress

Cruz: Prevent people from having their healthcare plans cancelled, prohibit insurance company bailouts, eliminate the provisions forcing people into part-time work, and repeal the individual mandate. Does this man not have a CLUE how insurance works ? If there is no mandate for healthy people to pay into the pool, only people in poor health will buy the insurance. The insurance companies will be stuck with a lot of policies bringing in $5,000 a year and paying out $100,000 a year. Since insurance companies are FOR PROFIT, the free market dictates that they must cancel the policies of their sickest customers who have the most desperate need for insurance, and while many will DIE , if they did not cancel the money-losing policies, the insurance company would go bankrupt. (This happened very often in the bad old days - two years ago and back - the only actual death panels were not in Obamacare, but in the accounting departments of insurance companies) But Cruz would prevent the companies from cancelling those policies, forcing them into bankruptcy. And then he would prohibit bailouts of those companies, meaning all their insured customers would have no health insurance, people in the hospital under their policies would be stabilized and dropped off on the sidewalk at the nearest taxpayer funded hospital for indigents, and all the doctors, hospitals, and labs who performed services for the policyholders would stand at the end of the line in bankruptcy court, and after several years might get 10 cents on the dollar for claims due. Obamacare is far from perfect..many bitter pills (like mandates) must be swallowed to get insurance for uninsurable people while working through an existing for profit system of insurance companies. While Cruzs proposal to replace Obamacare -- but keep the things we like, and get rid of the things we hate-- will fool a lot of people, but I hope enough people will see the disaster that would result from his proposal. Cruz may have just made the best argument yet for single payer health insurance AKA Medicare for all.
