Curious about the Big Finish Doctor Who audios? Heres a chance to try a bunch of them for whatever youre willing to pay. Or a whole lot of them for $15. Bets of all, some or all of the money goes to a good cause: Doctors without Borders/Medecins sans Frontiers, who send doctors around the world to help the poor and sick (such as with the ebola crisis.) For those who dont know the Humble Bundle concept, theyre a company that gets companies to donate older digital content -- games, books, comics, audiobooks, etc -- into bundles of content. The company designates a charity that the bundle will go towards. You can set whatever price you want for the baseline bundle. Give a buck if you want. Then there are higher levels with more content for a bit more money. When you checkout, you can decide what percentage of your money goes to the charity, the publisher of the content and to Humble themselves. Dont forget to adjust the percentages if you want more to go to charity! And dont forget to set the price to $15 or more if you want all of the extras. This bundle revolves around Big Finishs award winning Dalek Empire range of stories. They are set during the height of the Dalek Empire -- think Dalek Invasion of Earth, Dalek Masterplan or the 60s comics, with armies of Daleks invading the galaxy. Theres no Doctor in these. Instead the focus is on the humans fighting for freedom and having to make tough decisions. If you help calm and control the people in exchange for more food and health for them, does that make you a collaborator? Even if youre using it to get close enough to hurt them? Honestly, these are some of the best Dalek stories ever told. The base set, which you can get for any amount, features the first two Dalek Empire series, 8 discs worth of story, or around 8 hours. If you pay $15, then youll also get the third Dalek Empire series, which features David Tennant in a different role, before he became the Doctor, adding another 6 hours of story. But youll also get the entire first season of the Doctor Who lost stories, featuring Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant as the 6th Doctor and Peri. These eight stories should be of particular interest to classic Who fans because they feature the stories that the show would have done during the canceled season when Michael Grade took the show off the air. A few of these stories were also originally planned for the Trial of a Time Lord season, until they decided on different stories. A lot of these stories were written by very familiar names from the classic show, including Graham Williams, Philip Martin, Barbara Clegg, Christopher H Bidmead and Marc Platt. The stories feature the return of the Celestial Toymaker, Sil and the Ice Warriors, along with a bunch of new threats. Fans of Colins Doctor should especially appreciate that theyve mellowed his Doctor a lot, allowing Colin to play the part as hed wanted him to evolve into. Theres a lot less bickering between him and Peri, though theres still some ribbing. That gives you around 16 hours of 6th Doctor stories, and 14 hours of Dalek Empire stories for $15. And theyll be adding more stories soon, as they always do, to sweeten the deal. (Youll still get them if you order now.) I expect theyll be adding the 4th season of Dalek Empire or the second season of Lost Stories, making this an even better deal. Theyre also adding three unlocked characters form the Doctor Who: Legacy game, though all have been available for free before. Thats 30 hours of awesome Doctor Who and Dalek stories (and probably more like 40 hours, once they add more) for $15. And it goes to charity. Theyve already raised over $100,000!
