Currently on Barbados statutes are stated offences [and penalties] - TopicsExpress

Currently on Barbados statutes are stated offences [and penalties] for threats to kill; arming oneself with an offensive weapon; assault; wounding; wounding with intent; grievous bodily harm; grievous bodily harm with intent; rape; indecent assault; murder; attempted murder; etc, etc. Yet when some people talk about domestic violence and criticize government about the implementation of a Domestic Violence Act, as though the name of a piece of legislation is some kind of saviour, they give the impression that there are no laws in Barbados to deal with acts of domestic violence. Every act of physical violence that a man can inflict on a woman or a woman inflict on a man is already covered by some piece of legislation. What is really needed is a more serious approach to dealing with such situations by the authorities [courts and police especially, etc] and the victims themselves. Not more laws.
