D-DAY They faced the morning sunrise staring up with sightless eyes and the battle smoke hung low and heavy on the ground former comrades shed a tear some mouthed a silent prayer as the battles thunder crashed and echoed all around ************************** On the fields of slimey mud and stagnant pools of comrades blood they thought of home and friends and family the whistle of a foreign shell the mass destruction where it fell the price they paid to try to keep us free *************************** They came from fishing boats and farms with calloused hands they took up arms they knew the fight for peace it must be won some survived the manmade hell and watched as comrades fell as the world lost another Father ,Brother ,Son **************************** The trumpets mournful tune saluting those who died too soon from a country church it echos across the plain voices raised in trembling song remembering those now gone hoping such atrocities well never see again
