DAMELIN SUPPORTS MADIBA DAY WITH BOOKS FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN Over 600 ecstatic students greeted Damelin and ECR staff at a jubilant ‘story-book’ function at the Zuzokuhle Primary School today, 18 July 2013, to receive a donation of 300 books for underprivileged learners in Inanda– marking International Madiba Day. Damelin is proud to announce the sponsorship of the first ‘Knowledge Box’, in partnership with ECR - consisting of books for learners from Grade R to Grade 7. Hosted by the ECR Breakfast Show, the books were presented by popular East Coast Radio DJ, Darren Maule to a delighted school principal, Mrs Zakhona Nhlabati, at a packed assembly. The children enjoyed an awesome morning with Beauty and Beast book characters, providing some laughs and spreading an important message of the importance of reading. Damelin Head of Communications, Jessie Naidoo, Senior Marketing Coordinator, Tracy Govender and Online Strategist, Mala Augustine joined the ECR staff by spending 67 minutes reading to the children in their individual classrooms. “This was really a heart-warming experience for us all. To be able to read and take part in skits with the children was amazing. Damelin is proud to have been part of this worthy cause, “said Mrs Naidoo. “Thank you to Damelin and the ECR team for this generous donation. We really appreciate your humanity. Thanks for also spending 67 minutes of Madiba Day with us,” said Principal Nhlabati. The ECR, Knowledge Box campaign aims to take mobile libraries to schools to address the severe shortage of libraries across the province. A perfect fit for Damelin – as the leading private Higher Education institution in South Africa. For the past 69 years, Damelin has been providing students with opportunities to expand their knowledge and improve their career prospects, through quality private education. With our 17 campuses nationwide, Damelin offers a range of Higher Education (HE) and Further Education and Training (FET) courses in a variety of fields. Courses are offered via face-to-face studies, either on a full-time or part-time basis. In the words of Madiba, “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world.” Damelin echoes the same sentiments and we want to encourage all students; young and the young at heart to never stop reading.
