“DANCE AROUND THE TACKY WORLD” With your host: Bruce Hawes, Composer, continues with the incredibly funny, @Weird Weird Al Yankovic’s latest hit-song parody entitled: “TACKY” BH wrote: Before I began to write this review I went to the dictionary and looked-up the meaning of the word” TACKY, and here is how the word was described: tacky |ˈtakē| adjective (tackier, tackiest) informal showing poor taste and quality: DERIVATIVES tackily |ˈtakəlē| adverb. tackiness noun ORIGIN: (early 19th century of unknown origin). Early use was as a noun denoting a horse of little value, later applied to the poor, in some southern states, hence: (‘shabby, cheap, in bad taste) (mid 19th cent). Alfred Matthew Yankovic, Aka Weird Al Yankovic is not a teenager, but he has youthful exuberance. Yes he has had mass appeal to all ages for more than four decades. And with his new song based on Pharrell Williams song: “Happy,” he has brought new meaning to: “The Ageless Entertainment Industry.” Now, if only the major labels would apply this philosophy of ours to its own businesses the record industry’s sales would soar even more than it did ever before. Weird Al Yankovic calls upon a variety of stars for his video including: Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black. Each segment performed by these comedic geniuses brings to mind, and to the forefront, some of the most recent debacles televised internationally like Miley Sirus embarrassing humping barrage on Robin Thicke at the MTV Awards-ceremony. I think that qualifies as a “TACKY” display. And when Chris Brown was turned away from the (GQ) Gentlemens Quarterly event in New York City, I believe they were attempting to tell him that fashion should be worn around the body as cloths, not TATOOS all over the body. That is permanent. Fashion changes each season. Hmm? Were they telling him that he is “TACKY?” Probably! However, he is financially able to fix that once he realizes just how foolish he looks. But, he has a beautiful voice that I love!!! Right now, he just looks “TACKY!!!” This industry has produced some great talent. And not everyone is blessed with great taste in fashion no matter how famous they are. And the public is used to unusual looks, (even tacky ones), as a part of the theatrics of our business. Just don’t start believing your stylist’s advice, and go out on the street looking as if you’re on-stage. You’re not! Because, you just might look like a farmer’s daughter, with flowers in your hair, laying in a wheel barrel. Saying: “I’m Ready For My Close Up!” That’s “TACKY.”
