DARKNESS FALLS (dir. Gerry Lively) Ray Winstone plays a very depressed husband who embarks on a precisely calculated home invasion at the residence of his wifes lover to seek psychological vengeance. Unfortunately, the film develops into a lackluster mystery and the plots ultimate revelation falls flat. I realize that Winstones character is despondent and glum, but much of his dialogue is muffled and, coupled with his pronounced English accent, makes a lot of his performance undecipherable. A film that features a storyline that is gloomy and pessimistic need not be listless or dispirited, yet this film most certainly is.
