DAY 544 EDUCATION AND BUSINESS Hosea 4: 1-6 : “Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land…3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field” The Picture The battle between the Israelites and the Philistines had been on for 40 days. There was a “big” warrior in the camp of the Philistines that terrorised the Israelites. His name was Goliath. None of them could confront him in battle. Till David showed up. When David said he would confront Goliath, he was just a ruddy 16 year old boy. They took him to Saul and doubted his competence. David replied that “Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he had defied the armies of the living God. [1 Sam 17:23-38] This incident led to the victory over Goliath. David got the opportunity because he proved that he had studied the art of warfare on the field while guarding the flock. This education he received proved useful for him to even get the opportunity to fight Goliath. They were convinced on the basis of this testimony that they could give him a try. This simple illustration shows the strong link between education and your business. The bedrock of any business venture or any venture whatsoever, is the application of the knowledge you have in the industry. Be it as a tailor, auto mechanic or even a teacher. What you use is knowledge. The way to acquire knowledge is by education. It could be formal education as in a school, or could be informal like through impartation by acquiring experience. Whichever way, you only have a business when you have knowledge that you apply in one way or the other to earn income. Solomon asked for knowledge and wisdom from God in order to be able to rule the people. That was the business he inherited as king. [2 Chr 1:10-12] Proverbs 15:14 “the heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge; but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. Simply put, it is stupid not to be educated if you have a chance. Proverbs 24:4-5 “And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. If it appears that your business is going well and you do not need any form of education; be very careful. When challenges come, it is the level of your education that will see you through. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He quoted the scriptures for the devil because He knew His onions. [Matt 4:3-11] Phil 3:13-14 “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before 14 I press toward the mark for the price of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Let us visit our scripture for today. It says that the Lord has a controversy against the land, because where there was no truth, nor mercy, nor KNOWLEDGE. Therefore the land shall languish. And if you take if further to verse 6, you find the common verse of “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;” Pay attention to the word LANGUISH. The Encarta dictionary describes it in three ways. First is to be NEGLECTED OR DEPRIVED. – To undergo hardship as a result of being deprived of something, typically attention, independence or freedom. 2. TO BECOME LESS SUCCESSFUL – to decline steadily becoming less vital, strong or successful. 3 PINE – to long for something that is being denied. This is the lot of a business or person that is not coupled with constantly seeking knowledge. Good day folks. Uncle Fisherman
