DCC UPDATE 06/06/2013: Hello everyone, Despite all our best - TopicsExpress

DCC UPDATE 06/06/2013: Hello everyone, Despite all our best efforts in arranging for movies with captions on screens at two different locations, Deaf Cinema Club has received notification from our commercial cinema friends that they have not been able to obtain approval to screen Hangover 3 or The Great Gatsby with captions on screen. This is a devastating blow for us, our members and subscribers, and at this stage the Deaf Cinema Club will put a hold on all arrangements for future screenings while legal action is being considered, under the Disability Discrimination Act (Section 2, Section 24) which prevents a person from declining goods or services to another person based on their disability. Anton, my co-founder has offered his temporary resignation from Deaf Cinema Club, which I have reluctantly accepted, so that he can investigate options for legal action. If you want to support his case for the DDA claim, please email him at: anthonysammons@gmail Whilst we are not giving up at DCC, we will continue to explore other avenues of providing new release movies with captions on screen, as well as DVD/ Blu-Ray screenings. However, for those who have previously deposited money into the bank account for past screenings, please do reply to this email if you want the money to be refunded to you (along with your bank account details). I was hoping there would not be any bad news re Hangover 3 or The Great Gatsby, but we have to let you know the situation as it stands. Thanks everyone for your past support, and your continuing support in this trying time. Regards, Bryn - Deaf Cinema Club
