DECEMBER 7, 2014 From the Prayer Closet: Our primary goal in praying and in sending you this E-Prayer today is to bring comfort to your soul. Sadly, we miss some of that message during the Advent season. Knowing that someone cares—cares enough to pray—is intended to bring comfort. Maybe being a recipient of a person’s prayers, who is seeking to bring comfort, might seem strange, but it really isn’t. We live in a world where stress is eating up everyone. While the sources of that stress can be complex, “letting go and letting God” isn’t as easy as it sounds. In praying, we are taking time just to enjoy the moment, enjoy God’s presence, and place all those things that have us stressed out into His hands. For us who are praying, this means letting go of issues that we sometimes hold onto as we pray. Ultimately, all we can do in praying and in lifting you up—placing you in God’s hands—is to trust God to take over. This is where we find comfort, and we want you to take comfort in knowing that you are in God’s hands. Amen. Scripture: “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.” (Isaiah 40:1-2, NIV) Pray-ers Note: Prayer warriors sometime feel their blood pressure going up when they find themselves in the midst of spiritual battles. Spiritual conflicts can be intense and draining. Healing prayer is more often seen in bringing comfort and in dispensing peace and rest. While battles rage outside the Prayer Closet, during this season we are being intentional in focusing on finding comfort and peace. In coming to the Prayer Closet, sometimes we need to be willing to set aside our focus on the more abrasive aspects of intercessory prayer, and we need simply to focus on bringing comfort and peace. Let me be more precise in what I am talking about: in war-torn areas of the world as well as in personal lives, simply focus on peace. Speak the Word. Pray the Word, and most importantly, live the WORD.
