DECEMBER SOLSTICE 2014 DEC 21, 2014 by ALTZAR - Stewards of the Earth 4:03 PM Arizona time PINNACLE PEAK SOLSTICE HIKE Hard to believe that a year has already passed since that magnificent solstice sunrise I witnessed on Dec 21, 2013 atop the 10,000-ft Haleakala volcano in Maui (see below). Well, for this year’s solstice, Elizabeth and I did a more modest hike – up and down the Pinnacle Peak trail in Scottsdale. The weather was perfect and the mountain was teeming with hikers. There were even some people rapelling the nearly vertical cliffs at the very top of Pinnacle Peak. Solstice: Celestial New Year As a shaman, I have come to realize that the December solstice is actually the Celestial New Year. Jan 1 by the Gregorian calendar, and Jan 13 by the Julian one, are merely man-created new year’s.
