DEEJAY FACEOFF PREVIEW MIX DJ Purist St Johns, Antigua & Barbuda “The Englishman With A Caribbean Twist”. Playing since the 90’s across the UK and now in the Caribbean. DJ Purist has had a varied and interesting music career to date. An owner of his own nationwide record and cd Distribution Company. National wholesale manager for the UK’s leading Urban Record Store 2Funky Records. DJ tutor at colleges, schools and other youth institutions. Radio presenter, with his own show that ran for over five years. There isn’t much DJ Purist hasn’t turned his hand to. Without realizing DJ Purist grew up in a musical household influenced by his father’s deep love of music. As a child he was taken to live jazz concerts and grew up listening to his father playing records in the evenings after school and on weekends. “I remember as a kid getting up really early every Sunday morning to watch this music program that had live Indian drumming. I would just sit there listening to the rhythms and the percussion. I was told it was the only time I ever sat still and was quiet! Lol” Originating from the UK where he started his musical career. DJ Purist now spends the majority of his time on the Caribbean island of Antigua. He has built up an extensive knowledge and understanding of the many genres of music needed to rock a party on both sides of the Atlantic. Regularly used to playing five hour sets DJ Purist confidently states “You’ll never hear me play the same set twice”. “You can hear me play one night in one club and then again the next night at a different venue and you will not hear the same set of songs. “There is so much good music out there. There is no reason to be playing the same records, in the same sequence night after night.” With such a wide knowledge of music from rock to reggae and everything in between, it’s easy to see why he can so confidently make that claim. With this in mind it’s easy then to see why his mixes differ from other dj’s in the way they are crafted. Always precise, clean and fluid, they flow with a style and structure borne from an innate understanding and a life long love of music. You will often hear an exclusive DJ Purist remix in there too. “A Purist by name and a Purist by nature” Having played on every possible format. Once Serato came out with their control vinyl, it was back to the original art form for DJ Purist. Known in Antigua to take his flight cases and trade mark red vinyl with him everywhere he plays. “If there are no turntables, I bring my own.” Citing a song title produced by one of his main influences DJ Jazzy Jeff. DJ Purist states “I love what I do, and do what I love. ‘ “If I won the lottery tomorrow I would still be playing and making music. It’s my lifeblood; you cut me I bleed music. Lol” Currently establishing a Caribbean branch of the Miami based teaching organization P.A.T.H (Preserving Archiving and Teaching Hip Hop History) in Antigua. As well as working with and recording local artists, alongside putting out his unique brand of remixes together with regular mix tapes and his trade mark mini mixes. DJ Purist is continuing to push both the art form and his music around the Caribbean and beyond. https://soundcloud/the-14/dj-purist-diamonds-remix
