DESCARTES SHRUGGED: I finally got around to visiting Rene Descartes former grave in Stockholm (before they transferred his body back to Paris). I dont normally fancy looking at monuments of dead folks, but Descartes has a special place in my life -- he rewired my entire way of thinking, essentially through empirically proving the shortcomings of empirical science and reasoning - which was a truly chocking insight for me, having grown up with atheist scientist parents in a largely secular society. I read Descartes at 16 in an attempt to better understand and apply empirical knowledge, but instead it made me spiritual, and over the years, religious.
