DESOPADEC TO EMPOWER PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED IN ISOKO The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) is set to empower physically challenged persons from Isoko Ethnic Nationality. The Commissioner representing Isoko Ethnic Nationality on the board of DESOPADEC Arc. Joseph Ajiri Ogeh disclosed this at a meeting with the physically challenged at DESOPADEC Zonal Office at Etevie Quarters Ozoro. Arc Ogeh who was represented by his Special Assistant Hon. Jonathan Umukoro said the Commission has set aside funds for the empowerment of the physically challenged in the various Ethnic Nationalities. He therefore charged them to come up with business proposals to enable the Commission release the funds to them by procuring Starter Packs for them. The Commissioner also assured the physically challenged that part of the funds will be set aside to establish a Cooperative Society for them to enable members procure loans at very minimal interest rate. It will be recalled that in the past, the commission makes provision for the physically challenged but unfortunately a group of people within the Executive hijacks it without the empowerment getting to the people it was meant for. The Commissioner also advised them to work together with their representatives in the State Exco and urged them to ensure that the representatives renders regular briefing to them otherwise they should recall them back within three months. The Leader of the Physically challenged in Isoko Com. Simeon Ikuta commended Arc. Joseph Ajiri Ogeh for having their interest at heart and prayed for Gods guidance and protection upon his life. He recalled how Arc. Ogeh stood his ground to ensure that the empowerment funds is made available on the basis of the Ethnic Nationalities despite the unwarranted attacks from his colleagues at the State Executive. Com. Williamson Onoweya State Treasurer of the Physically Challenged who spoke on behalf of his colleagues in the State Executive apologized for not representing them properly in the past and promised them that henceforth he will make sure that what is due them will get to them. The meeting was attended by the Zonal Coordinator of DESOPADEC Zonal Office Ozoro Mrs Ereremena Tisane Paulina, Jacob Ashamo, Com. Otiogbo Ekemena representing Isoko North in the State, Com. Festus Oluku representing Isoko South, Owhore Omonigho State Woman Leader and over 200 members of the association.
