DETAILED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for LARGE HAILSTONES, HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WIND For people in parts of the Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Greater Newcastle, Sydney and Gosford/Wyong areas. Issued at 4:39 pm Sunday, 7 December 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:40 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Parramatta, Riverstone and Gorokan. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Hornsby, Sydney City, Sydney Airport, Sydney Olympic Park, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Belmont by 5:10 pm and Bundeena, Manly and waters off Bondi Beach by 5:40 pm. Large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds are likely. A wind gust of 90 km/h was recorded at Camden Airport at 12:41pm. 5cm hail was reported from Turramurra at about 4pm. 2-3cm hail was reported around Hornsby at approximately 3:20pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Dont walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES [NSW and ACT] on 132 500.
