DEVOTIONS FOR THE NIGHT OWL ~ The Power of a Sign Although I no longer have little kids, I still enjoy going to yard sales occasionally. It never ceases to amaze me, however, how many people go to all the hard work involved in having a yard sale, then fail to advertise well. Oh, they may or may not put an advertisement in the newspaper, but the few signs they put up directing their customers and passerby-ers are very difficult to see. Many signs are not at eye level of travelers in their vehicles, often at ground level. Some are written on flimsy cardboard or paper that isnt weather resistant. A LOT are in very small print, almost impossible to view. Ive even seen homeowners put their house for sale and make this fatal error!! The interesting thing is that sometimes the sign reflects the quality of the yard sale. A rinky dink sign often leads me to a rinky dink yard sale. A large, attractive, colorful sign often leads to a great multi-family yard sale. But as I said earlier, there are also times Im aware of a yard sale through facebook or the community and upon arrival, I find signs sitting at ground level written in small print. Soon I see first handed the results being a poorly attended sale. Our representation of the Gospel is often like a poorly advertised sale. We have a life changing relationship with Christ to share yet what we do to bring others in can be rather rinky dink!! A counselor once told me that God is real and He is good but Christians dont always represent Him very well! If were proud of what we have to offer, we should be drawing others in by a powerful display that will be noticed by the multitude! Joy Yeager ~ Joy-Full Ministries Which sign(s) attract you?
