DEWHURST BRINGS DOG TO HEEL Sabden 8 - 4 Dog Inn (Match Sponsor: Pendle Hill Properties) Near neighbours, Dog Inn, were sent back to Whalley yelping with their tails between their legs as Sabden`s attackers were let off their leash to inflict goal pain. Dean Foxall outfoxed 3 Dog defenders in the 1st minute before slamming a 20 yard drive into the bottom corner for a tremendous individual goal. Ten minutes later another Foxall blast screamed past the Dog keeper for 2-0. Adam Fuller repeated the feat on 17mins from the opposite flank, with yet another fine individually created effort. A 36th minute flick on from Buggie was chased down by David Fallon, and as the keeper advanced, Fallon bravely and skilfully clipped the ball over him for 4-0. Dog managed to trouble the Sabden goal very little in the first half, but did score with their first notable effort on 40 minutes, a header, with Sabden stopper Tom Diggins fatally caught in two minds. It had been a sublime performance in the first half, with the scoreline not flattering the hosts. However, despite a promising start to the second half, which saw leading scorer Paul Astin steer home a 50th minute Ryan Graves pass to further increase the lead, Sabden started to get ruffled by Dog`s refusal to lie down. A 55th minute shot into the left corner, followed by the slightest of touches from a long throw on 59, reduced the deficit to 5-3, with Dog now in the ascendancy. Sabden brought on Ben Dewhurst for the last half hour. Making his first league start for Sabden this season, the former Dog captain helped turned the tide back in Sabden`s favour, delivering some delicious crosses into the box. On 75 minutes, Zac Musker, another long standing Sabden player who has yet to feature regularly this season, prodded a neat ball into the area. Fallon advanced on goal! The Dog keeper made a good save from the striker`s first shot but could do nothing as the ball bounced straight back to Fallon who gleefully rammed the ball home. Dog bared their teeth and tried to get back into the contest - and an 85th minute dipping 20 yarder crept under the bar to make it 6 - 4 and a possible nervy finish. However, fate had decreed that Dewhurst was to have a definitive say in the destiny of the points, in a game where he holds both teams dear. Putting aside his former loyalties, Dewhurst cut inside from the right flank on 87 minutes and buried a screamer in at the near post to make the game safe. Jonny Heap completed the scoring on 88 minutes to maintain his good form. GOALS Foxall (1, 11), Fuller (17), Fallon (36, 75), Astin (50), Dewhurst (87), Heap (88) MAN OF THE MATCH Jonny Heap - made an excellent goal line clearance in the first half, defended stoutly, and was a constant threat when asked to relocate from full-back to striker MOLLY`S MAN (** New Feature **) SuperFan, Molly Capstick will be nominating her own Man of the Match for all home games.
