DHSK for mass-awareness about the significance of breast feeding World Breasting Feeding week being observed at Dental College, Srinagar SRINAGAR, AUGUST 03: World Breast Feeding week which commenced from August 01 was today observed at Government Dental College, Srinagar here today was organized by Directorate Health Services, Kashmir and Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar. Director, Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman who was the chief guest on the occasion while speaking highlighted the significance of breast feeding and emphasized that breast feeding promotes health for both mother and the infant besides prevents various diseases adding that breast milk is made from the nutrients of mothers blood stream besides contains fats, sugar, water and proteins in adequate proportions required for the growth and development of the baby. He said that during breast feeding antibodies are also been passed to the baby through mother’s milk besides breast milk contains several anti infective factors such as bile salt stimulated lipase which protects against amoebic infections and Lactoferrin. Urging for creating awareness among the lactating mothers to adopt breast feeding for more than six months, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman informed that breast feeding is associated with the increased cognitive development of a child. A large number of doctors present on the occasion also spoke on the significance of breast feeding. Among others, Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar, Chief Medical Officer Srinagar, Medical Superintendent Dental College, Doctors, para medicos and ASHA workers were present.
