DIG among 23 killed in suicide blast QUETTA, Aug 8 (APP): As many as 23 persons, including three senior police officers, were killed and 40 others sustained injuries in a suicide blast here in the Police Lines on Thursday. Police said the blast occurred in the premises of the Police Lines mosque where preparations for the funeral of Station House Officer of City Police Station Mohibullah Kakar were underway. The SHO had been shot dead by unidentified assailants earlier in the morning near his residence on Airport Road. Several police officers were attending the funeral prayers. The powerful blast left Superintendent of Police (City) Ali Mehr and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Shamsuddin among others dead. Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Quetta Fayyaz Sumbal, who was critically injured, died while being shifted to nearby Combined Military Hospital. “The attack appeared to be a suicide one and the bomb contained some eight to ten kilogram explosive material,” said the police sources. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital and the Combined Military Hospital, where some of them were stated to be in critical conditio
