"DIRTY DOZEN" DISCUSSION - DAY 7 - FRAGRANCE /PARFUM "diethyl phthalate (prounced tha-late), or DEP, is widely used in cosmetic fragrances to make the scent linger .. EPA states - "people who drink water containing di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEP) in excess of the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for many years may have problems with their liver, or could experience reproductive difficulties and may have an increased risk of getting cancer." The MCL - max contaminant level is 6 parts per billion (PPB) (.006 milligrams per liter) for drinking water, yet we are "drinking" phthalates through our skin in untold amounts daily, weekly, yearly! Most use 12-15 products daily, and unless you are aware of this issue, fragrance and phthalates are is in most of them - plus the phthalates you inhale through cleaning products, air fresheners, and candles. AVOID ANY PRODUCTS with the ingredient "fragrance" or "parfum" - they are legally hiding hundreds of harmful chemicals. IF A MANUFACTURER WILL NOT TELL YOU WHAT IS IN THEIR PRODUCT, best not to buy or use it.
