DO I MERIT THIS VISIT Lk 1:43-44 At different time in history God decide to visit his people. In Gen.3:8, God visited Adam with and Eve who ran to hide because they felt they were not worthy to receive God. This was how man lost the privilege of Gods visit to him. In Exodus 3, God visited Moses in the form of a burning bush. From that moment on ward, God started talking with Moses. In Exodus 19, God decided to visit the children of Israel, but when God was coming, there was smoke in Sinai, and God descended on the mountain in fire. When God started talking to Moses, the people were so Afraid that they may die that was why they told Moses, we do not want to see God again. The people were afraid of God despite the command to sanctify themselves which they did. Exodus 19:10 It was believed that no one can see God and not die. That was why in Exodus 33:20 God told Moses who requested to God, you cannot see my face; for no one see me and live. Heb 12:29 says our God is a consuming fire. When Isaiah saw the lord, he said in Isaiah 6:5 woe to me for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips and dwell in the mist of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King of Kings. In Lk 1:43-44, God decide to visit Elizabeth while He was still in the womb of the Blessed Mother Mary. Elizabeth exclaimed what do I merit for the mother of my lord to visit me? Why do people avoid meeting with God? It is because God is all holy. Man can never be as holy as God. Isaiah 43:3, 15, Ezekiel 39:7, Hosea 11:9. This was what made the centurion to say, LORD I am not worthy to have you under my roof: but only say a word and my servant shall be healed. Isaiah 64:6 says our righteousness are as filthy rags. It is mercy that will make God to visit us especially when we are not worthy. Every visit has an impact. Gal 4:4, in the fullness of time, God sent his son. This is what Saint John in John 1:14 described as the word made flesh. This visit is a special one, catechism of the catholic church CCC.457-460 says Christ was born to reconcile us with God the father. 1Jn 4:10, 4:14, 3:5. In CCC 458 so that we can know the love of God the father. CCC 459 the word became flesh so as to be our model of holiness and in CCC 460 so that we can be partaker of the divine nature. 2 Pet 1:14.That is why Jesus draws the attention of the people in Jn 12:24 to psalm 82:6 you are gods. The question that comes to me today is, do I merit this visit? Jn 1:12 says As many that receive him, he gave power to become children of God. May God help us in Jesus name.
