DO YOU THINK FREE PUBLIC SWIMMING AND SKATING WOULD ENCOURAGE MORE FAMILIES TO ENJOY THESE FORMS OF RECREATION & FITNESS ACTIVITIES? I have discussed this with a number of people and they seem to feel that by offering free public skating and free public swimming, we might see more parents getting out and enjoying these activities with their children. The profit made by the city by charging for these activities is relatively low, so my feeling is that by taking the charge away, or even by taking the charge away when families attend, we might be providing more incentive to our residents to get out and become more physically active as a family. It may not seem like much, but for parents who are on a tight budget, this would give them an opportunity to do something special as a family and get more involved in the recreational aspects of the community. I would be interested in hearing what you think about this since it is something that I would like to propose to City Council next year.
