DODORIMA BY PRINCE MADUKA NBM ABIA ZONE Many people may not know what Dodorima really connote. Dodorima in strong Igbo language refers to honesty, straightforward ness, intelligence, hard working, etc. Dodorima stands for anything that makes a man good and at the same time strong. This slang has been taken to represent a form of greeting or response to some issues that interest and make meaning to us, whether collectively or individually. It has become our culture to say, Dodorima to you. Meaning that Dodorima is associated with greetings of the good manners of Africans. On no occasion have we heard people of Africa and African descent say Dodorima to an unworthy person, hoodlum, social deviant or violence monger. Anytime, a good reason comes from an African of the Ibo tribe or the Kwale tribe of Nigeria , you must hear somebody say, My Brother, Dodorima to you. To my own simple understanding, Dodorima represents the man in you. It sends messages to people about you. It makes people who are weak, oppressed, fearful, etc. to come and take refuge in you. This was the main reason why in the days past, when a an unworthy person hears the word Dodorima, they shiver to their sandals. We are gradually loosing the spirit of Dodorima as Africans. The spirit that makes an African fight back when oppressed, that makes an African man struggle to live in the midst of death. In Africa we all know that DODORIMA is not associated with negativity, this is a freedom fighter’s way of salutation. It is only good deeds that receive Dodorima from fellow African brothers that are always proud of your Noble deeds. Let us not allow religious and spiritual emancipation becloud our sense of doing the right thing at the right time, which I call today, the Spirit of Dodorima.
