DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE FUNCTIONAL? Well the answer is yes and no. YES if it is used for fighting on the streets. NO if it is intended to show its beauty and value in relation to its cultural aspects. As the late GM Tony Diego said There is a big difference between Eskrima for duelo (fight) and Eskrima for the entablado (stage) Yet there is a need to do both. But its practicality in accordance to its intended use should never be confused. If it is for fighting then be as efficient as it need be for fighting. If it is for demos then be as flashy as it need be for the event.
