DONT ONLY APPLY THE PARTS OF THE BIBLE THAT FIT YOUR LIFESTYLE!!! Much of the Christian Religion teaches that we must survey the text of the Bible and always take in consideration the context of who God, Jesus, John, Paul and so forth were/are addressing. In which i agree, we should educate ourselves on Gods Word, but i disagree with saying, because God was speaking to the Israelites, and not the gentiles, it doesnt apply to me. For example, tattoos. Many Christians believe that its ok to alter and change our bodies permanently...because when the Bible addresses it, the context in which its talked about, it was referring to pagan religious rituals and practices. And Moses wrote, in Leviticus 19:26-30, because he was worried about the Israelites fallen into the pagan rituals of the Egyptians. He was writing so that Gods people would separate themselves from the pagans; by not trimming their beards, not eating meat with blood in it and not getting tattoos, cutting their skin. So nowadays Christians say, well it doesnt apply to me cause the Bible was speaking about to the Israelites and Egyptians, in which it would be ridiculous to say we should not trim our beards in todays culture. Well Moses was speaking to GODs PEOPLE and telling them to separate themselves from the pagans and not participate in their culture. So why would we turn around and say, well whats for the Israelites(Gods Chosen People), isnt for me???? This isnt a topic of whether Christians should get tattoos, but the thinking behind our actions and faith. See i have a tattoo, but i dont need it to showcase my love for God or the lost ones it memorializes, i now know that. I also know, that as a disciple of Christ, what was good for the Isaelites/Jesus, has to be good for me as well. I dont believe Leviticus speaks to whether its a sin to tattoo or not, but i do know that God was saying(to His people, which I now am, because of adoption), Do NOT conform to the religious pagan rituals of the world, but separate yourselves from them. And its not separation when you do what they do! AGAIN, i have my revelation from God on permanently altering what He created, and even those this post is not about tattoos, i just want to say, Dont ask whether Christians should get tattoos, but rather ask God if you should be getting them? ...But back to the point of this post! So many Christians like to say, God was speaking to a certain group of people, so that part of the Bible doesnt apply to me! Well based on that type of thinking, please understand Jesus only spoke to the Jewish community...so nothing He said would apply to you either, unless your Jewish! Some have said that Jesus only taught love and never got mad/upset with unbelievers, but only the hypocrites of the church at that time; well...we the people are the church and when He went into the temple, its wasnt the religious leaders turning Gods temple into a whorehouse(even though they allowed it), but it was regular people, the money ex-changers and those selling doves(and probably fruit, perfume, and much more). The Israelite community, Gods Chosen People were often cursed for their disobedience and given different rules/laws than the Gentiles, but only because they were held to a higher standard. Yet they were also given promises that werent given to the Gentiles, because before Jesus, ONLY Jews could inherit the Kingdom of God. So why do we gentiles believe in blessings that were given to the Jews and not us, yet dont hold ourselves to the same laws and standards given to the Israelites and not us? Thank God, because of Christ, there is no more divison, between Jew, Gentile, Israelite, Egyptian, African, or American. Because we now get to choose whether we are His chosen people or not, whether He is our Father and we are His children regardless of ancestry decent and bloodline. Please learn and educate yourself on the context and audience in which everything in the Bible is written and said, but PLEASE DO NOT EXCUSE YOURSELF FROM IT, BECAUSE THE MOMENT WE PICK IT UP IS THE VERY MOMENT WE BECOME THE AUDIENCE IN WHICH GOD INTENDED IT TO REACH AND SPEAK TO!
