DOWRY THE BANE OF SOCIETY Hence, unless dowry is abolished once and for all, women will not have a genuine confidence in themselves, because they think of themselves as burden to the family and the society because of this malpractice (dowry). Very few people will accept the fact that parents are responsible for this inhuman custom of dowry. Because it is actually grooms parents who demand dowry and not the grooms themselves. So, if the decision and choice of marriage is left on the marriageable boys and girls themselves; no boy (groom) will ask any girl (bride) that, you pay me dowry and only then I will marry you. It will occur very rarely. So, remove the parents from marriage negotiations, and dowry will be removed automatically. With the giving up of dowry, genuine confidence will come to the womenfolk. Then only they will realize that they are equal to the menfolk.
