DRAG RACING LEGEND SHIRLEY MULDOWNEY JOINS MRN AS GUEST HOST OF THIS WEEK’S ‘STRAIGHT LINE’ CONCORD, N.C. (June 17, 2014) – NHRA legend Shirley Muldowney will join Marty Hough as a guest host on this week’s edition of MRN’s “Straight Line.” Muldowney, considered the “First Lady of Drag Racing,” is a pioneer in professional auto racing. She was the first woman to receive a Top Fuel license from the National Hot Rod Association and is a three-time champion in that division. She’ll sit in for the show’s regular co-host and current Top Fuel competitor Doug Herbert, who’s in Hawaii this week. Herbert’s brother-in-law, Mike Benetti, is serving in the United States Military and recently received a promotion. He’s transferring to Pearl Harbor, where he’ll take over command of the U.S. Army’s 29th Battalion that’s based there. This week’s “Straight Line” – airing exclusively at MRN on Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m. (EDT) – will feature Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon and Funny Car competitor Tommy Johnson Jr., who are both third in points in their respective classes. “Shirley is kind enough to sit in for Doug Herbert and we’re honored to have her as part of this week’s ‘Straight Line,’ ” said Craig Moore, who produces the program. “She’ll bring the perspective of a three-time champion to the show. I’m sure our listeners will appreciate her insight and opinions.” In 1980, Muldowney became the first driver to win multiple NHRA Top Fuel championships. She has 18 National Event wins to her credit, including the prestigious U.S. Nationals in 1982. Among her many honors is induction into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at Talladega Superspeedway. “Straight Line” is a weekly one-hour program that provides an in-depth look at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. It’s streamed each Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m. at MRN. The show is part of Motor Racing Network’s exclusive lineup of online content that includes “Winged Nation,” a weekly look at the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series which airs each Tuesday – also from 12 to 1 p.m.
