DRONE: a provocative word that evokes giddy excitement in the movie industry and equal fear in the American public. The FAA announced today that it has taken a step towards opening the skies to commercial use of drones in the movie industry under strict conditions. While movie makers appear to be the most obvious beneficiaries of this exemption at the moment, there are industries waiting in the wings that have the capability to catapult the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) industry into the stratosphere, which have the ability to create thousands of business and job opportunities. Some technology companies have been developing and honing this technology for decades, delivery companies have been investing in UAV R&D for years just waiting for the day, agricultural industries want to use it for crop inspections and oil companies for pipeline patrols. The FAA is under congressional mandate to craft rules for the civilian use of drones in US airspace by September 2015. As the technology is perfected, regulations are written, modified and/or removed, and UAV activity becomes more commonplace, many citizens may become concerned with personal air safety and privacy violation issues. As citizens, we encourage everyone to stay informed as this industry changes rapidly. As a production company, were excited that many cinematographers will be able to take cinematography to a creative level that will blow viewers minds!
