DRP Showdown Summary 9-20-14 (Day Two) Rich Schumann Jr. dominated the Late Model portion of the weekend by winning the 25 lap and 35 lap Features Friday night & coming back Saturday Night to finish second behind Roscoe Illinois Pilot Dan Lensing in the 50 Lapper, the only thing besides Lensing that stopped Schumanns march to sweep the weekend was Mother Nature as She rained out the final race of the evening Saturday night a second 50 lapper which would of gave the Driver from Portage another shot at the flatlander Lensing. In Sportsman & Hobby Stock action it was Dave Trute doing double duty as a hired gun in both a Sportsman car owned by Mitch Lyden & a Hobby Stocker owned by Bob Sauer. Trute finished second Friday night to winner Daron Fish then third in the first 30 lap A-Main Feature Saturday night behind winner Kyle Chwala and second place finisher Randy Breunig. Trute finished second to winner Scott Luck in the night cap of the Twin 30s which was good enough for the 2014 Sportsman Track Champ to wrap up the Showdown Title for Sportsman by just 3 points over Breunig. Trute did not stop there as he also nailed down the Showdown Title in the Bob Sauer owned Hobby Stocker by setting Fast Time Friday night and winning the A-Main Friday night. Then Trute came back on Saturday and finished the job by ending up second to winner Jimmy Robinson in the first A-Main and fouth in the night cap of the Hobby Stocker Twins that saw Billy Robinson pull off a last lap pass of race leader Bill Schott with Jimmy Robinson fending off Trute for third. The efforts of Dave Trute earned him a 3 point margin of victory in the Showdown Hobby Stocker title chase over Jimmy Robinson. The Bandits saw the return of 2013 Track Champion Steven Rozek capture the Showdown Bandit Title over Phil Malouf by just 5 points. Malouf & Rozek each took home a Feature Victory on Saturday night but when the dust settled it was Rozek who came out on top. Wisconsin Sport Truck Series was on hand for the first time in 2014 and it was Hayden Watzka setting a NTR in qualifying then also comes from the back of his heat to capture the victory, but in the end Kyle Quella was all smiles with his first A-Main Victory of 2014 over the hard charging Watzka. Midwest Bando Series had Kaleb Winter set fast time and win the dash but Luke Fenhaus came home the Victor in the A-Main. Illinois Vintage series capped off the Showdown weekend with a Blast from the Past exciting A-Main Feature and Pat Echlin held off former CWRA Pilot Rex Rossier and Pat Heaney in a heated battle for the win. Rossier and Matt Ramer came home with heat race wins earlier in the evening. A Big thank You to all the Fans, Staff and Race Teams who supported Dells Raceway Park in 2014.
