DRUM TRACK OF THE DAY: Cant Take My Eyes Off You By Frankie Valli featuring Hal Blaine Our selection today was inspired by yesterdays DRUM TRACK OF THE DAY, Big Girls Dont Cry by The Four Seasons. Were now in a serious Frankie Valli kind of a mood! So heres a classic by Frankie from his first solo album in 1967 featuring one of the most recorded drummers in history, Hal Blaine. Chances are if youve ever listened to any popular music, you have heard the drumming of this man. On this track, Blaine serves the music beautifully throughout. The song also features real handclaps, a handheld tambourine, vibes, a killer horn section (including a prominent baritone sax!) and a string section. Nothing digital here. Just a good old fashioned recording of an awesome studio band playing a great song thats wonderfully arranged! Enjoy!! About Hal Blaine: Hal Blaine was the most in-demand session drummer in Los Angeles during the 60s and early 70s and was part of the famous group of session players called The Wrecking Crew. Blain played on 50 number one hits, over 150 top ten hits and recorded over 35,000 pieces of music over a span of 25 years. His stats are absolutely staggering! The musicians Blaines played with reads like a whos who list of popular music that includes Jan and Dean, The Mamas and the Papas, The Byrds, Johnny Rivers, the Association, the Grass Roots, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, John Denver, Neil Diamond, John Lennon, Dean Martin, Diana Ross, Simon & Garfunkel, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Barbra Streisand, The Supremes, The Ventures, Frankie Valli, Frank Sinatra, and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Outside of recording popular music, Blaine also played drums on many television and film scores, including The Brady Bunch, “Dynasty,” “Happy Days, Hotel, “Laverne & Shirley,” “The Partridge Family,” “Three’s Company,” ”WKRP In Cincinnati,” The Monkees and many others. Blaine is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was also voted one of The 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time by the readers of Modern Drummer Magazine earlier this year. Hal Blaines impact on modern music cannot be denied. Hal Blaines List of #1 Hits: • The Lonely Bull - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, 1962 • Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah - Bob B.
