In the picturesque desert mountains of Payson AZ, a mother, her children, and family dog, Dude, set out for a camping trip they soon wont forget. A terrifying car crash rapidly turns into the family being taken to the nearby hospital while Dude is thrust into the treacherous desert mountains of Arizona. Forced to survive in strange and frightening terrain, Dude must leave his domestic instincts behind as he fights for his life against the wild creatures that lurk in the desert. A true story of a family who refuses to accept the inevitable of their precious family dog until absolutely forced to - Dude cant possibly endure the unforgiving wilderness - and so the search begins. A family that is lost in their day to day world is found in their hour by hour quest for what is unbearable in their heart; their missing, youngest family member...Dude. ROLES: HELEN - Early 30s CAUCASIAN, shes an attractive but emotionally wounded woman whose husband has just dumped her for another woman and refuses to pay child support. Mother to three kids, Helen takes her brood on a camping trip that turns disastrous when she wrecks her car, sending her spooked dog, Dude, running off into the desert...LEAD. MATT - Early 30s CAUCASIAN, this attractive passerby renders aid at the scene of Helens accident. Frankly attracted to Helen, Matt is a genuinely nice guy who just wants to help, and sets out to assist Helen in locating her lost dog, Dude...LEAD. AL - [LEGAL 18 IF POSSIBLE] 16 years old CAUCASIAN, Helens oldest child, and also the man about the house, since dad has neglected his kids and his financial obligations. Al feels the need to be there for his mom...LEAD. ROBBY - 8 years old CAUCASIAN, hes Helens youngest child, a sweet and bright boy who is devastated when their family pet, Dude, goes missing in a car wreck following a camping trip. ..LEAD. MARY - 11 years old CAUCASIAN, shes Helens only daughter, an outgoing and appealing girl who reluctantly goes to her dads house on alternate weekends. ...LEAD. DOT - Late 30s CAUCASIAN, shes a salt-of-the-earth rural woman who lives in a small desert community. She hears about the missing Dude on the radio, and when the pooch shows up in her yard, she and her husband and kids try to catch him, to no avail...SUPPORTING LEAD. JACK - A stocky man in his early 30s CAUCASIAN, hes Helens ex, who dumped her and the kids to take up with a married woman and her family...2 speeches & 9 lines, 2 scenes. WAITRESS - 40s+ [ANY ETHNIC] A waitress at a desert diner, shes sympathetic to Helens plight and hands out flyers about the missing Dude to all her customers. Shes a genuinely caring woman who just wants to help...4 speeches & 11 lines, 4 scenes. SAM - Late 30s CAUCASIAN, hes Dots husband, who also tries to catch Dude in his back yard, but cant quite corral the elusive pooch. Later, hes aghast when coyotes kill his family dog -- and apparently Dude as well...4 speeches & 11 lines STORE CLERK - 20S [ANY ETHNIC OR GENDER] This snooty store clerk at a pet store responds icily when Helen complains about how expensive the dogs are...7 lines, 2 scenes. RANCHER GEORGE - 50s CAUCASIAN, this rugged local rancher also spots Dude and tries to catch him. Later, he openly weeps as he watches Helens touching reunion with Dude...3 speeches & 7 lines, 4 scenes. POLICE OFFICER - 30-60 years old - [ANY ETHNIC] This somewhat overweight police officer questions Helen in the hospital after her accident. Increasingly miffed by Helens hostile manner, he cites her for reckless driving...3 speeches & 10 lines, 1 scene. COWBOY 1 & 2 - 50+ CAUCASIAN- These trail-hardened local cowboys also contact Helen after spotting Dude. They are later seen getting drunk and argumentative at the Ranchers (George) ranch...1 speech & 9 lines, 2 scenes; 1 speech & 7 lines, 2 scenes. DUSTY - Ages 13 CAUCASIAN - respectively, they are Dot and Sams sons, who also try to corral Dude in their backyard -- but the dog is too fast for them...4 lines, 2 scenes; 5 lines, 3 scenes respectively.
