DUI checkpoints are fine, but violating someones constitutional - TopicsExpress

DUI checkpoints are fine, but violating someones constitutional rights are not. This stop was way out of line and handled very wrong. Police are accustomed to being obeyed and feel out of control when they are not. That is dangerous for them in some cases so they often overcompensate by trying to prove that they can force you to obey. There was no reason to even have the k-9 check this kids car except intimidation and a desire to show him they can do what they want. A verbal intoxication screening would have been fine and send him on his way. If he would not cooperate and was coherent and able to make a valid argument about it, well like it or not that pretty much proves he is not under the influence, which is the point anyway. I have great respect for police, they have a very tough job, but they also need to respect our rights as citizens of the USA and not try to prove a point to a young person who they already know was innocent, as stated in the video. Im glad this kid knew his rights (most of us dont) and was willing to go through this to expose a police department that can use some training on how to respect the Constitutional rights of American Citizens.
