***Dads Cancer Update*** At the behest of His Majesty, I have been instructed to inform the good people from The Book of Face as to his current condition. As some of you might already know, the Multiple Myeloma has weakened his immune system enormously, and he was recently hospitalized for pneumonia. But hes home now and is feeling some better. The staph infection in his leg is healing quite nicely, although it still looks quite hideous. His pain level (on a scale of 1-10) is quite often between a 5 and a 7, so we keep the pain medicine handy. The radiation has taken its toll and, this time around, hasnt shown great improvement in relieving the tremendous pain in his spine. However, it has successfully, on multiple occasions, emptied the contents of his stomach. Because of the weakened state of his bones (not to mention the large amount of cracks, breaks, and fractures throughout his skeleton) he is being given a drug that will help harden and strengthen his bones, thus slowing down the rate at which the cancer is eating through them, as well as relieving some of the pain in his spine. But before he can be administered this drug, oral surgery needs to be performed to extract a few teeth that need to be removed anyway. Otherwise his jaw could fracture exponentially when the teeth were removed after the bone hardening drug was given. Much is pending on this procedure being expeditious as well as successful as cancer treatments cannot resume until the bone hardening drug is administered. In a perfect world, he will have oral surgery in Erie next week, and resume chemotherapy/radiation the week of Thanksgiving. More to follow, Im sure.
