Dads are you teaching your kids to study the Bible for themselves? - TopicsExpress

Dads are you teaching your kids to study the Bible for themselves? I hope so. I thought mine already knew, found out they didnt. correcting. First, teach them some principles of Bible Study. What are they? (in no particular order as they are equal in importance): 1. The obscure is judged by the obvious. Dont make your doctrine hang on a verse that could go either way. When the Bible says, Salvation is by grace through faith, and that not of yourselves. Dont toss that and find some obscure verse to prove that you should obey the law too. 2. No One verse makes a Doctrine. False religions are marked by this. 3. A Persons actions do not equal Gods approval. Just because King David did it, doesnt make it right, nor wrong. 4. No Scripture is of private interpretation. Go to men and women of God, and neutral places (such as biblical commentaries NOT produced by your denomination or cult) and see if youre close. 5. God is ALWAYS true, man is NOT. (Let God be true and every man a liar the Bible says). 6. What I think I know does not determine who God is, or what I should learn. Dont come to the Bible thinking you already know, or God will not show you any more. Come asking God to guide you, and instruct you, and you will grow in your understanding, or be corrected. Either way, you win. 7. I cannot make the Bible say what I want, I must allow the Bible to change what I say. Dont approach a passage or a doctrine with a predetermined outcome. If youre looking for an excuse to reject the Bible, or prove a doctrine you WILL NEVER find Gods truth. 8. NEVER be afraid to challenge yourself, your faith, or your Pastor with questions. Gods truth can withstand, and godly men who are Pastors love questions, and challenges. James 3:17, But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 9. Let Gods Word speak for itself without commentary or excuses. Use a basic Bible Dictionary to find the meaning of some words but DO NOT try to change them. If you have to find 4 pages of excuses as to why this or that Bible verse doesnt really mean what its saying you know already you are refusing to accept whats in front of you!! Just let God speak for Himself, and stop justifying or excusing Him or His Truth. 10. Know that you will NEVER understand Gods Word without Gods Spirit, regardless of the bible version you read. If you do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour you can never receive Gods truth. 1 Corinthians 2:14 (chapter:verse) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. No, Im not an authority, I cannot dictate, nor can I command. However, these principles have guided me for years, and have proved invaluable in standing toe to toe with anyone about what God says about an issue. When Gods Word says it, that settles it, and I believe it. You can take your Bible, a Concordance, and a Bible Dictionary (strongs includes basic Hebrew and Greek) and determine Gods truth for yourself. If you dont know Jesus, and want to Know Him, let me know. I would love to tell you the story of Salvation by Grace through faith in Christ. This is a post from one of my oldest friends in ministry for many years. Thank you Howard Coles!
